How To Become A Digital Marketing Master Without A Post-Secondary Degree

Monique Morrison • Aug 12, 2018

If you had the opportunity to take your business to the next level… would you?

Of course you would! That’s why you’ve likely already taken steps like advertising on radio, run promotional events, and maybe even started an email list. Some of it may have worked well for you, others… maybe not so much.

It doesn’t matter what type of business you run, the most successful businesses have one thing in common: Marketing.

Master marketers know how to connect with their customers and build relationships. They utilize the Customer Value Journey and conversion funnels, analyze data and perform optimization testing, conduct market research and post regularly on social media… I mean, people go to school for years to study this stuff, right?

Well… yes, they do. However, it’s unlikely that you’re about to drop everything to enroll in a multi-year post-secondary degree program to gain the skills you need now.

And you don’t have to.

Other than the time commitment, there are a couple downfalls to learning marketing from an academic institution. Oftentimes those teaching the courses have been out of the game for a while, and when technology changes from day-to-day, they may be out of the loop when it comes to the latest trends, apps, and software programs. Imagine graduating with out-of-date learning!

Online marketing certifications are a smart choice for the busy entrepreneur. Not only can you get the most up-to-date info, but you can apply your learning immediately to your business!

Everyone learns better when you can relate to the information and apply it right away.

Completing a marketing certification through an actual marketing agency means you have access to the industry’s leading experts. You’ll see real-life examples, be able to learn from the mistakes of others, plus get one-on-one support for strategies unique to your business.

So how do you know if an online marketing certification is legit? Afterall, there will still be a time and financial investment here, and you want to make sure you’re getting the most out of your investment.

Check to see if the instructor is still active in their field. While some fundamentals will still be relevant, such as the Customer Value Journey, you don’t want to end up paying for information that isn’t relevant to today.

You’ll also want to check the content of the certification. Some certifications have been around for years, and if the content itself hasn’t been updated, the strategies won’t be relevant. The instructor should be able to discuss what’s working for them today.

Are you going to be held accountable for your learning? We get it… nobody likes taking tests or showcasing their work. But honestly, how are you going to be able to learn the content if you have nothing to show for it? A good marketing certification will ask you to complete a cumulative test or perhaps even submit work throughout to help you stay on track and to connect your learning to what’s going on in your business right now.

After you’ve vetted the certification program, take a deep breath and hit that sign-up button! Just like the first day of school, you’ll feel nervous… but we promise that when you apply the skills of a Master Digital Marketer, you’ll reap the benefits of your learning.

If your business could benefit from having a professionally trained marketer, our Digital Marketing Mastery Certification program is ideal for both private and group training. This 9-week certification is facilitated by a live instructor (in-person or online as available) in a true small group, classroom-style format.

In this program you’ll complete a marketing assessment and learn about conversion funnels, customer value optimization, content marketing, learn how to run paid traffic, and more! You can read the full course description and check upcoming start dates on our website.

See you in class!
